What are Ring-back tones?

A ring-back tone is a piece of music, which is played for the caller during the phase when the call connected signal sounds. The ring-back tone sounds besides the regular call connected signal until the call is answered by the called or by his voice mail. So, instead of a boring call connected signal the caller can listen to the (favourite) song of the called person.

This feature is since 2004 available on charge in Germany for T-mobile or Vodafone customers. Since 2005 this service is also available for the land line numbers of the deutsche Telekom.

Similar to ring tones for cell phones, the customer can choose his ring back tone out of a variety of current pieces of music. He will be billed a one-time fee for the establishment of the service as well as a monthly fee of only a few euros. This ring-back tone is then played for all incoming calls or can be played only for a certain group of callers.

The ring-back tone is available for all types of phones and cell phones because the service is established in the net.

n contrast to ring tones the ring-back tones are not stored on the phone, but are with the help of specific network elements mixed into the Freiton-Innenband-Signalisierung.
